How Indie Filmmaking Works: What Happens After a Film Premiere?

The Movie Is Finished — Now What?

One of the questions we hear most often is, “Now that A Ranch Musical is finished, when will it be on Netflix?”

It is a great question — and one we completely understand. From the outside, it can seem like a movie premieres, gets applauded, and then magically appears on a major streaming platform the next day.

But for independent films, the journey after production is often just as important as making the movie itself.

First, We Share It With an Audience

Before finalizing A Ranch Musical, we brought the film to Elko, Nevada for test screenings. It was a meaningful full-circle moment to share the story with a community that helped inspire and support the project from the beginning.

The response was wonderful. Audience members laughed, sang along, shared what resonated with them, and offered thoughtful feedback that helped us see the film through fresh eyes. That input was incredibly valuable as we completed the final version of the movie.

Now, the film is finished — and we are excited to share it with as many people as possible.

Why Screenings Matter

For an independent film, screenings are more than celebrations. They help a movie find its audience.

Every ticket purchased, post shared, comment left, and friend invited helps demonstrate that there is a real community excited to watch the film. Those moments of support matter when filmmakers begin speaking with distributors, platforms, festivals, theaters, and potential partners.

A streaming release on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, or another service is not automatic. It takes relationships, distribution opportunities, audience interest, and proof that people are ready to support the story.

That is why every screening on our journey is so meaningful.

How You Can Help A Ranch Musical Reach More People

The best way to support an independent film is to follow along and help spread the word.

Following A Ranch Musical on Facebook and Instagram, signing up for our newsletter, sharing our posts, bringing friends to screenings, and engaging with our updates all help build the audience this film needs to keep moving forward.

It may seem like a small thing, but it truly makes a difference. Independent filmmaking is powered by people who believe in the story enough to tell someone else about it.

Help Us Find the Next Stop on the Trail

We are actively looking for towns, theaters, rodeos, western events, film festivals, and community venues that might love to host a screening of A Ranch Musical.

Do you know a local theater with a great audience? A rodeo, cowboy gathering, western heritage event, or arts organization that celebrates stories of ranch life and rural resilience? Maybe there is a community venue in your hometown that would be the perfect place for a musical love letter to the West.

Tag them in our social media posts, send us their information via email, or share this blog with someone who may be interested.

The Journey Is Just Beginning

Making the film was a dream. Sharing it with audiences is the next adventure.

A Ranch Musical was created with the help of ranchers, musicians, artists, friends, families, and communities who believed that this story deserved to be told. Now, we are inviting you to be part of what happens next.

Thank you for following the journey, cheering us on, and helping this little independent western musical ride farther down the trail.
